Suddenlink vs. AT&T: Which should you choose?

Exploring your options when it comes to Internet, telephone and phone provider options can be bit of an overwhelming task. There are so many to choose from, so deciding which option is best for you can be tough! Fortunately for you, we have done the leg work to help you decide which service might be best suited for your needs! In this article, we investigate the various options offered by both Suddenlink and AT&T.

What should I know?

Suddenlink and AT&T are both recognized for offering efficient Internet, television, home phone, and mobile services. Upon further evaluation, we discovered that Suddenlink and AT&T have similar Internet speeds ranging from 100-1,000 Mbps. Also, they both offer unlimited data. Suddenlink has no contracts which means that there are no early termination fees, either. Suddenlink is even willing to spend $500 to buy you out of your current contract. AT&T typically does not offer contracts except for when you take one of their promotional offers. Should you break this contract, you must pay $15/month for each month remaining.

What is the set-up process like?

Both service providers charge a one-time fee of $99 for a scheduled professional installation. For Suddenlink, this fee includes installation of one outlet, plus an applicable charge of $25 per additional outlets. In addition, the installation includes one device set up wirelessly and the installation of up to two set-top boxes. This installation does not include any hardwiring of devices. If you choose to upgrade to the premium install, the price increases to $149 and includes local hardwiring for one of the following (TV, computers, gaming, and alarm systems). This premium option allows customers to have all their available devices set up wirelessly and they can get three or more set-top boxes installed. As for AT&T, the one thing that differs with their installation process is that they offer a Do-It-Yourself option for $35. As for the modems, Suddenlink and AT&T both require a modem for Internet access, costing $10/month.

How is the Internet Quality and Speed?

Suddenlink offers a 200 Mbps Internet deal which costs $30 per month, whereas AT&T offers the same speed for an extra $5 ($35/month). If you are seeking faster Internet, you can opt for the 400 Mbps plan with unlimited data through Suddenlink for $40/month. AT&T offers 300 Mbps for $45/month. Lastly, Suddenlink's 1 Gig Unlimited plan (940 Mbps) is $50/month whereas AT&T offers this same speed for $60/month.

What are the Internet options?

Suddenlink services an estimated 6.8 million people in nineteen states, offering both cable and fiber. AT&T offers fiber optic in 21 states. Fiber differs from cable because cable is sent through copper TV lines whereas fiber is made of plastic and mainly used for Internet services. Fiber is typically preferred because it provides high-bandwidth connections, while also allowing for quick upload times. Fiber is also less likely to slow-down to high traffic.

Suddenlink AT&T
200 Mbps for $30/month 100 Mbps for $35/month
400 Mbps for $40/month 300 Mbps $45/month

Otherwise, you can add a home phone option to any bundle for $29.95/month. AT&T offers two home telephone options to customers, one being the Complete Choice Enhanced package permitting local calls for $48/month. They also have a nation-wide plan which includes long-distance calls for $70/month.

How do Optimum Mobile and AT&T mobile phone plans work?

Optimum Mobile, a part of Suddenlink, offers a mobile service that starts at about $14/month per line. They offer a nationwide network with 5G access and no multi-line commitments. AT&T offers three mobile plans, all which require a minimum of four lines but include unlimited calls, texts, and data throughout the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Their most affordable option is the AT&T Unlimited Starter which costs $35/month. The AT&T Unlimited Extra Plan is $40/month and includes an additional 50GB of premium data. Lastly, the AT&T Unlimited Elite package offers an additional 100GB of premium data.
